A Work Of Heart

Here is Chris's story
in her own words:
I've
always lived in Utah. I've been painting for over 25 years, starting
back in '75 when I was expecting my first of four children. Soon
afterword I was asked to teach, which led to designing small pieces
and selling a few. It's great when a hobby turns into a way to make
a few extra dollars. I've had a great advantage where my husband
is a woodworker with hundreds of tools. He is into cabinetry and
such but he reserves a small corner in his shop for my saws and
sanders. I've learned a great deal from his skill and in fact he
even lets me cut the smaller wood orders he gets from painters and
such. Actually, he'd much rather be building a bed or dresser or
something. He is very skilled and I am very lucky.
Back in '92,
my sister and I opened a little shop for teaching and selling our
decorative painting. We loved it and it was doing well although
it was very time consuming. After 6 years, the city where we live
bought the land from our landlord for a shopping center and we were
forced to move or close and we chose to close. Even though I miss
my students and friends, I really have enjoyed my freedom. I quickly
got into publishing my own book, "All the Holidays" through
Sue Scheewee. Now I enjoy working with Miller's on their design
team. I love their books because they are so good for the beginner
painter and yet there are also pieces that a more advanced painter
can enjoy. It is just the right amount of work for me to keep that
creative spirit alive and still have time to golf occasionally.
I try to attend the National Conventions once in a while and always
the Las Vegas shows. If you haven't been, they're great and it's
a neat place to meet each other and share ideas. I'd love to hear
from you and learn how others got hooked on painting.
